Hey Famz,

So it’s day three in the studio here in Toronto and I am just beside myself with how amazing this record is sounding. It’s nice to simply trust yourself and be able to trust your team. I guess that comes with time. Not that I didn’t trust any of the above before, I just didn’t have the confidence that I have today back then.

The BLACK BOOK is really an album of stories. REAL stories that REAL people will relate to. Every song was written from a passionate place and even though I am singing them I truly listen to each song like a fan would. I am a fan of my work. Is that cocky??? I don’t think so. For once, I am Unbiased and really connected to the messages and the sincerity of every word, every sound and every breath. I am also not chasing the idea of WHEN IT WILL BE RELEASED in other countries because I just know that it will happen exactly on GODS schedule : )
This time around I am fully driving this ship emotionally, physically, creatively. A wise man once said that “Your gift will make room for you� and I finally get it. My gift has more then made room for me…

To often we try to measure our level of success with others which only sets us up for the biggest let down EVER. Michael Gorman (My Nuni and 2nd in charge at Pandyamonium Artist Management) pointed out the fact that the home I live in was paid for by my art and commitment to my vision. Sometimes were so caught up trying to get bigger that we forget about the current testimony. My art is where I live… It’s how eat, It’s where I sleep, It’s where I bath, It’s how I laugh, It hears my cries, It’s where I work, It’s where dream, Its why I believe, It’s how I achieve…

My most recent Tattoo (I have seven) was inspired by the making of THE BLACK BOOK. It reads “Own Your Art…� That doesn’t mean just music. Your art is what you are most passionate about. What ever it is, get lost in it. Hold on to it. Support it. Commit to it.

Well, back to the lab. I just had to write to you guys today as my spirit let me to.

Happy JUNE Famz!

Could you believe we're half way through the year already. WOW! Time is Flying so much that I didn't realize that it's been an entire month since I blogged... BAD! The best thing to come out of not blogging as much is I actually have something more to say that doesn't pertain to my personal life... You know your give '"Be talkin sometimes just a little to much"... : )

BIRTHDAY:
Okay so Mom celebrated her 73rd birthday last month! PRETTY CRAZY! For all you women having babies in your forties PLEASE stay healthy and strong to your children can enjoy life with you well into your seventies, eighties and nineties : ) Happy Belated Mom, your baby is working extra hard to make all the dreams you put on hold to raise your kids come true!

So a few weeks ago I got a call from my Etalk Peeps asking IF I was interested in covering a DC Shoes event on Los Angeles, CA and of course I said Yes!!! I REALLY enjoy my Etalk work and was excited to sharpen my TV chops plus I hadn't been back to LA in a while so without even FULLY knowing what I would be doing I said "Yes". So I get there as see this Car doing Doughnuts and more and instantly I'm SCARED OUT MY MIND...I'm like "In my mind I'm like Hell No, I'm not getting in that car" But knew very well that I had to...

DOUGHNUTS: A "doughnut" is the act of rotating the rear of the car around the front wheels continuously, thereby creating circular skid marks if done right, ...

I arrived looking like I was about to perform in my Skinny jeans, Sexy Pumps, Funky Tank top, fresh hairstyle and Make-up on point JUST IN CASE this would be the end of me (I know kinds morbid... My Bad)...

How blessed was I to be greeted by Kimberly Paige Dresser who is the DC Shoes VP Global Communications/PR and Entertainment Marketing and Ida Khabazian who is the Lifestyle, marketing & Placement Manager BOTH are SUPER nice and SUPER FLY : ) They made sure your girl wasn't to afraid to get in the car and even gave me some Really nice DC Apparel. Thanks Ladies : )

So I get in and meet KEN BLOCK for my "Blind Date" car ride and asked if we could say a quick prayer cause I was REALLY afraid. I was more afraid to do this ride then I was to swim with sharks... He was SO COOL and of course he said yes : ) I would have prayed out loud anyway... So then with two cameras in video taping the ride he takes off! I was SUPER stiff at first but then it became SUPER fun! Like a roller coaster almost. I couldn't believe how precise his driving was. I mean this was an obstacle course people... I mean on some "Fear factor stuff"! Once it was over I wanted to do it again. WOW, What an amazing experience!!! Peep the link below to see what I experienced!

ROB DERDEK:
I also got a chance to kick it with ROB DERDEK (DC Shoes, Rob & Big, Fantasy Factory, etc)
He was just as cool in person as he is on TV. We basically sat and had a conversation that was video taped. That's how down to earth he is. No cards needed just a conversation. (I Love Etalk for giving me that freedom). When I asked him how he manages to stay so grounded he responded with "I'm driven by the challenge and humbled by the success." Then I had my "Ah ha" moment as OPRAH likes to call it. The moment you realize the reason why you've been placed where you are. I realized that I needed to hear that quote to push me just a bit more to not only follow my vision but LEAD my vision. He and Ken have been friends since at least 1993 and they both had dreams that we different in genre yet the same in passion... A true testament of what REAL friendships are made of. Now they're both on top YET the are as humble as the day they dreampt that dream.

What an inspiration.

What is poppin... OH!!! I'm pleased to announce that I have recorded an ENTIRE NEW ALBUM called "THE BLACK BOOK". Yeppers, we got tunes people. BIG TUNES! 11 BANGERS.

Not sure if I mentioned that I've been been doing an intense 42 day Sub-Personality integration via Yoga and Meditation that has had me have to face some serious issues and childhood emotional baggage that has held me captive for to long! I had no idea I could commit to something this personal and this emotional and not drop fall off for this long. Man, so proud of myself. I still have 6 days to go BUT I feel good that I'm almost at the finish line...

Mothers day is coming up and I was BLESSED to be able to shoot an ETALK segment today with my Mom : ) We made Crepes with Laura Calder Host of The cooking networks "FRENCH FOOD AT HOME". She's AWESOME! Mom was so FUNNY...

Happy April 15th!

Today is a GREAT day and so I am choosing to celebrate it like a birthday! I'm Just not buying gifts for me BUT what I have realized is that I AM MY GIFT!!!

Each day I when my eyes pop open and I take my first noticeable breath I say "Thank You Lord for giving me a chance to do it again". What is "It" you ask? Well, my "its" could be as simple as doing another set of lunges or to have that conversation again BUT this time show more compassion or simply put my blackberry down and give whomever I'm speaking to my undivided attention... Or Not letting PMS get the best of me... Oh it's VERY real BUT working out and my new yoga practice combined with mediation has TOTALLY alleviated my usual "The sky is falling" antics that come when my hormones are just RAGING!

Okay enough about my hormones...

On April 1st I started a 42 day mission of simply starting my day with me for me. Taking time to pray and anchor my thoughts so that I can not let external issues seep into my spirit and derail my happiness.... It's day 15 and so far so good.

So in case you all don't know I became a first time home owner about four years ago which was a HUGE accomplishment being that I was raised in government housing for the first 18 years of my life. Momma worked at General Motors and was able to provide for all nine of us however, the money wasn't there to buy a house. So that was my mission. I was determined to own property even if it meant it was empty... Well, God blessed me with two albums and a TV career that helped me accomplish that goal. For the first year I wouldn't hang photos as I didn't want to put holes in my walls... Pretty crazy right. But you have to understand that I was just happy to be the owner of these walls... Finally I hug photos. Then my best friend and Stylist submitted my name to be on the show "Renovate my Wardrobe" where they built me one of those amazing closets so now Papa can actually style me via Ichat or phone.. Still I only had that room done. The co-host Greg encouraged me to get the house painted in 2006 and WOW what a difference that made. After that I made a plan to do one new thing to my house per year until I get it to where I am TOTALLY syked when I get home... being that I've travelled a lot for work I have seen some of the most amazing hotels and dreampt of having my house be my mini hotel BUT knew that would take some serious coin. Being that I am a woman of faith, I simply kept working and praying and taking the steps to bring my home to where I would like for it to be. Fast forward to 2008 when I get a call from my Hairstylist and Best Friend Ryan Reed insisting I come to his house to see his NEW ROOM compliments of the tv show "Colour Confidentail" ... I WAS FLOORED!!! It looked like the W Hotel or one of those AWESOME hotels... He was like "Bredren you can get yours done to" I was like HOW!!! HE was like go online blah, blah, blah... So I followed his instructions to a "T" and Voila I GOT MY ROOM DONE!!! I'm telling this story because sometimes we feel that gifts have to come in packages BUT really this gift that Papa and Ryan gave me was priceless and and helped make a dream come true...

I have to send a HUGE shout out to the company that did the flooring. I LOVE the work they did. OMG... I'm paying it forward and posting their information as we are living in a time where if we simply just share our contacts we can potentially give someone a gift without even knowing>
